What races can I participate in

Adults can register for the full marathon (42km) or the half marathon (21km).

Children (10-17 years inclusive) can be registered for the 5km Kids’ Fun Run.

How much do I need to pay?

Half marathon entry is Ksh. 15, 000 per adult.

Full marathon entry is Ksh. 15,000 per adult.

Kids’ Fun Run entry is Ksh. 3,000 per child.

What do I need in order to register as part of a team?

A team name.

At least 4 team-mates and at most 10 team-mates. If your group is larger than this, you’ll need to split up into smaller teams.

How do I register as part of a team?

Please select the ‘I would like to run as part of a team’ then select your team-type. We have two types of teams- ‘Friends & family’ teams and ‘Corporate’ teams. Please select the one’s that’s applicable to you based on the criteria below:

Only select the ‘Corporate Team’ option if you are registering and paying on behalf of a corporate team. Select the ‘Friends & family’ team option if you would like to register and pay for yourself as part of a friends and family team.

I would like to register myself as part of a friends’/family half-marathon team

Please select the ‘I would like to register and pay for myself as part of a friends’/family team option’, then proceed. You will be prompted for your team name, then your personal details.

I would like to register and pay for myself and some or all members of my friends’ and family team.

Please select the ‘I would like to register and pay for myself as part of a friends’/family team option’, then proceed. You will be prompted for your team name, then your personal details.

When you get to the payment summary page, click on the ‘Add Another Registration’ button, which will enable you to go through the same process and register another member of your team. Repeat this process until you have added all registrations, then proceed to payment.

Can I fill in my friend’s details then have them pay for themselves?

No, registrations can only be secured with payment.

How can I register a corporate team?

Please choose the ‘I would like to register and pay on behalf of a corporate team’ option, then proceed.

I would like to register a corporate team, but some members of my group are running the full-marathon.

Corporate registration will only allow you to register half-marathon participants. However, when you complete the corporate registration section, please select ‘Add Another Registration’ and you will be allowed to add a full-marathon registration to your payment tally.

Why am I unable to click on the ‘Terms and Conditions’ box?

Why is my entry not being accepted?

I’m having trouble paying with my credit/debit card.

What is the maximum amount I can pay via MPESA?

Please note MPESA has a single transaction limit of Ksh. 70,000 and a daily transaction limit of Ksh. 140,000. 

If your payment exceeds Ksh. 70,000 we recommend that you check out either via Pesapal or Bank Transfer.

Once your transaction through M-PESA is complete, please make sure to enter you confirmation number and click 'Verify Payment and Place Order' to complete your registration. 

What should I indicate as my account number when paying via MPESA?

Your account number will be auto-generated by the system, when you select payment via MPESA.

Why is there an online processing fee added to my registration when I check out via Pesapal?

The online processing fee comes from a 3.5% commission charged by our payment gateway Pesapal.

I’ve selected the bank transfer option, by when should I have made my payment?

In order to secure your running slots, proof of your payment should have been sent to [email protected] by Tuesday the 6th of March.

How will I know that my application has gone through?

You will receive one final confirmation email, with details of your payment and registration as well as further information regarding the race.

Do I have to book my accommodation right now?

Accommodation bookings will remain open until the 1st of May.

Will I have a chance to register more spectators later?

Yes, spectator registration will remain open until the 1st of May.

When is Race Day?

The marathon will be held on Saturday 30th of June. All runners are expected to be at the start before 7.00 AM. No runner will be allowed to take part without a signed disclaimer.

When can I collect my race pack?

Race registration, and collection of race packs will be held on Lewa on Friday 29th of June between 9.00 AM- 6.00 PM. Runners unable to register and collect their race packs on the 29th of June, can do so on race day between and 5.30 AM- 6.00 AM. 

At registration you will receive your race pack, which includes your running number, wristband, t-shirt, AMREF card (if paid for) and programme.

How can I go about booking my accommodation?

If you have not secured accommodation but would like to stay on Lewa during the marathon weekend, please note you have until the 1st of May to make your accommodation arrangements. Email [email protected] for further details.

Arrival on race day is allowed, but please note registration and start time details above.

If I change my mind, can I give out my slot?

Yes, you can, please write to us-[email protected] with the name and email of the new runner. Please note that change of runner deadline is the 18th of May. After the deadline, runner changes will only be made on registration day at a cost of 2,000Ksh.

Do I have to pay to be a spectator?

Only if you’re staying on the conservancy on Friday and/or Saturday night. You will need to pay a nominal spectator fee of Ksh. 1,000 in addition to your spectator fee.

Must I purchase AMREF medical insurance in order to participate?

No, but we highly recommend that you do if you do not have any prior medical or evacuation insurance cover. Without prior cover, emergency medical evacuation can cost over $4000, which must be paid BEFORE treatment or flight. In an emergency, if there are issues with payment, this can be life threatening. You can purchase AMREF medical evacuation cover for the event at just 1,500 Ksh, on the online registration form.

Am I required to fundraise?

There is no minimum fundraising requirement for Kenyan participants, but we highly encourage all our participants to fundraise for the causes that the marathon supports. Please email [email protected] for further details.
